Movie Nights: Now playing at a hostel near you

With a fancy new "theater" and 57-inch flat-screen TV, the San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf Hostel is our latest hostel to feature movie nights!
Join us for free popcorn and some cinematic action, Tuesdays - Saturdays at 8 p.m. On Friday and Saturday nights, the hostel’s Cafe Franco also dishes up freshly baked pizza for $2.50 a slice.
When movies aren’t playing, guests are welcome to surf hundreds of HD satellite channels.
But the Fisherman’s Wharf Hostel isn’t the only one making use of its TV room — seven of our Northern California hostels host regular movie nights and/or have TVs for guest use.
- Every night of the week, June - December, and on weekends January - May, visit the Pigeon Point Lighthouse Hostel’s Fog Signal Building at 8 p.m. to catch a movie on the flat-screen TV. On chilly nights, guests are welcome to fire up the wood stove. They also just got a Wii — ask at the front desk if you want to play!
- At the Marin Headlands Hostel, head to the basement game room on Mondays at 7 p.m. for their movie night. Staff serve up free popcorn and lemonade along with the flick.
- The San Francisco City Center Hostel has a library of more than 100 DVDs for guests to borrow and play on either their own laptop or on the hostel’s big-screen TV. Rentals are free. The hostel also gets HD satellite TV in both the TV room and in the cafe. Check the calendar for themed movie nights; in September they’re on Tuesdays at 7 p.m.
- The San Francisco Downtown Hostel doesn’t currently host regular movie nights, but it does have a theater-style TV room with bean bag chairs where guests can veg out to their favorite HD satellite TV shows, movies, and sports matches.
- Check out the common room at the Point Montara Lighthouse Hostel to view a small selection of environmentally themed films, including An Inconvenient Truth, March of the Penguins, the Planet Earth/Blue Planet series, and Killers of the Deep. When guests aren’t watching films, the TV plays footage from the Common Murre Restoration Project, which reintroduced this seabird to Devil’s Slide Rock just offshore.
- At the Sacramento Hostel, grab a DVD from the free film library and head downstairs to relax in the TV room, where you’ll find comfy new couches and a 52-inch flat-screen TV.
