Cook up a storm in the San Francisco Downtown Hostel’s brand new kitchen

San Francisco Downtown Hostel Kitchen

After four weeks of intensive renovations, the San Francisco Downtown Hostel has unveiled their completely remodeled third-floor kitchen!

Previous hostel visitors won’t be able to recognize the new facility, with its new dishes and cookware, gleaming floors, freshly painted walls, wooden cabinets, modern furniture, and more.

The biggest change to the kitchen is the addition of three electric stoves and a full-size oven, complete with fans and lights over the ranges. In the past, the kitchen was limited to microwaves and toaster ovens due to insufficient electrical capacity, but with some major rewiring, the space has been updated to accommodate these new appliances.

Shiny new pots and pans hang from a sturdy rack in the cooking area, ready to be used by hostellers. Serve up your meals on the new dinnerware, then wash, rinse, and sanitize in the new industrial kitchen sink. Guests can also take advantage of the hostel’s new recycling and composting program, and feel confident that they’re lessening their travel footprint.

The dining area has also been spiffed up with sleek furniture, new countertops, a convenient coffee station, and – surprisingly – a new window. Renovators discovered a window hidden behind one of the walls, and after a little work were able to restore it, bringing more natural light into the kitchen.

The new kitchen is just part of a series of hostel-wide renovations at the San Francisco Downtown Hostel, which so far include revamped lounges and guests rooms on the second and third floors, as well as a new theater-style media room on the fourth floor.
