Major renovations are underway at the San Francisco Downtown Hostel!

Ah, spring. Not only does this season mean warmer weather, longer days, and blooming flowers… it also heralds that time-honored tradition of "spring cleaning." The San Francisco Downtown Hostel has taken this concept and run with it, kicking off a series of major renovations and improvements that will be completed this year.
The second floor of the hostel is the first area to be completely transformed. All of the rooms on this floor — eight private rooms and 11 four-bed dorms — have received a thorough make-over, including all new bed frames, mattresses, pillows, and colorful linens, as well as fresh paint and new carpet, curtains, lighting, and other decor.
The second floor guest lounge has also been completely redone, with new carpet, new furniture, and modern art decking the recently painted walls. Take advantage of the hostel’s free WiFi service, new sound system, or just kick back and relax on the comfy new couches. The internet lounge has been freshly painted, and is now equipped with a Skype phone; new furniture is in the works.
But the biggest improvement to the Downtown Hostel can be found on the fourth floor. The new theater-style media room is a film buff’s dream, with a large, widescreen television and thundering surround-sound speakers. Dark, sound-absorbing curtains swathe the walls while comfy bean bags pepper the floor and add to the cozy vibe. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a long day of sightseeing!
The hostel shows movies twice daily, with documentaries screening at 5:30 p.m. and narrative features at 8:30 p.m. Check the board outside the media room to see what’s on tap for the week.
The San Francisco Downtown Hostel will continue to make improvements during the coming months, renovating all of the hostel’s guest rooms one floor at a time, and installing new, upgraded kitchen facilities. You can see pictures of the newly renovated second-floor rooms in the hostel’s photo gallery, or better yet, book your stay now and see what they’re like for yourself!
