New HI-Whistler hostel to open at the 2010 Olympic Athlete’s Village

HI-Whistler hostel

A new Hostelling International hostel in the world-class resort town of Whistler, Canada, is set to open July 1, 2010, and is now accepting reservations.

The new HI-Whistler was constructed as part of the 2010 Olympic Athlete’s Village — a brand new neighborhood just minutes from the slopes.

A purpose-built hostel, HI-Whistler includes 40 four-bed dorm rooms (some with ensuite bathrooms) and 14 ensuite private rooms. Common spaces include an on-site cafe, a fully equipped kitchen and dining room, TV lounge, game room, theatre-style meeting room, and spacious outdoor decks and patios.

Whistler is of course a major winter resort destination, but summer also has plenty on offer, including Alpine hiking, mountain biking, beaches, and water sports.

Hostelling International has operated a hostel in Whistler since 1969, when they purchased a small fishing lodge on the shores of Alta Lake. The 25-bed hostel has been very popular with budget travelers, but it can no longer meet the demand for affordable accommodations. HI-Whistler on Alta Lake is still currently serving travelers, but it will close as the new hostel opens.

Hostelling International member rates at the new HI-Whistler start at $30 CAD for dorm beds and $99 CAD for ensuite private rooms. For reservations, visit the HI-Canada website.
