Around the world in 25 pictures: Keith Levit photo exhibit tours Northern California hostels

Though some would argue that "it’s a small world after all," there’s no denying the multitude of different cultures, languages, and landscapes that pepper this little planet of ours.

Winnipeg-based photographer Keith Levit is one of the few who have been lucky enough to trot widely across the globe, through Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North and South America. According to his biography, "his passion for photography, love of travel and adventure, coupled with his sensitive, profound, honest affection for people, embody images that capture the heart and soul of the world’s most remote and inaccessible regions and the people who inhabit them."

This year, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the worldwide hostelling movement, Levit presents his striking photos in a special photography exhibition, "Our World — People, Places, Culture." This series showcases 25 portraits and landscapes snapped on Levit’s adventures, from the sand dunes of Namibia to the mountaintops of Peru.

Two copies of the exhibit are touring Hostelling International hostels, one in Levit’s home country of Canada, and one in the United States.

On the U.S. tour, Northern California stops are planned in San Francisco, the Marin Headlands, and Sacramento before the exhibit is permanently installed at the San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf Hostel. Each exhibit location is hosting a free reception, offering the public a chance to peek at these compelling photos, which are otherwise exclusive to guests staying at the host hostels.
